Whats the difference between broadband and 56k modem?
I'm buying a laptop but I needfulness a fast internet for job communication. I know broadband is supposed to be fast, but is a 56k modem fast too? I have a 56k modem in this pc I use at home on dial up, but I when I cement it says 19.2kbps, it never gets higher. If a laptop comes with a 56k modem does that mean It will be look-alike time than dial up at home?
56k is the peak speed that modem can achieve. In reality, the best dial up tops out around 53K or so.
At home you also have a 56K modem. 19.2 is just the fastest your family can maintain.
Broadband is an entirely different type of connection than dial up. It is much much faster, and uses unheard-of types of modems to connect. Any modern laptop will have an ethernet adapter whcih can be plugged intot he broadband modem provided by your ISP, and also a WiFi adapter to rivet to wireless networks.
